Comment:

 You wrote: "I think that when we save the layer to shapefile ( qgis =>

 I guess the idea of the coders here was that you should only ask the
 conversion from A to B if A can be converted into B. Hence the only bug
 here is that the error message could be easier to understand, so I'm
 closing the bug (I guess you can reopen the bug -- or file a new ticket --
 if you insist that the error message should be clearer).

 The other thing that you are suggesting is, if I understand correctly, a
 proposal for an enhancement: if A is a file with two components (A1=line,
 A2=polygons), the user could choose which of these components to convert
 into B. You can open a new ticket for this enhancement. (In this case,
 make a comment in both tickets -- #3641 and the new one --- linking to the
 other).
