Giovanni,

This is something that has been discussed off and on with the  
developers. I'm a user, not a developer, but my understanding is that  
it is an item that several people would like to work into qgis,  
although it is not an immediate priority moving towards version 1.0.  
Version 1.0 is being targeted for later this year, so maybe  by this  
time next year (or possibly sooner) there will be spatial geometry in  
qgis natively. Of course, someone could develop a plugin if they had  
the skills.

In the meantime, you can use the grass tools to do spatial geometry  
from grass.
