Just two tips, related to the 0.10 rather, but maybe they are still valid.

Do you see a panel with paper settings etc on the right side of the composer? 
If not, you have to pull it from the right window edge.

Is the canvas white or gray? If gray, it's only background and the canvas (or 
rather a sheet) is zoomed out. You have to use the "Zoom All" button.

Maybe it will help for you.

PS. Use the "* scale" widgets in map preferences (on the right side) to solve 
any problems with line width and symbol scale
