[Qgis-user] Convert DEM to ASC file format

I've just downloaded the Mac OS X version of qgis and am delighted with it!

First noob question: I'd like to convert from a DEM format to a ASC  raster
format.  (ASC apparently is the same as ESRI Grid..I think]

Can I do this directly in qgis? .. or if not, can I use the libraries and
python to build a script for it?
