[Qgis-user] How do I get manageR under Ubuntu 8.04 - 64 bit working?

I am facing this strange problem:

I could not get manageR loaded. I've installed all possible dependencies
(as far as I could find searching the web) and it worked. After I
install rgdal in R it stoped working!!! What did the installation of
rgdal "hurt"?
