I was aware of the tools you mentioned.
I was suggesting something different, integrated into QGIS, to show your
pics not on GM/GE, but on the QGIS canvas. This is very useful for
surveys, especially when combined with one's own analyses. And of course
this avoids the non-free Google licence.
