Ok, so I suppose you're on Windows and are using the qgis-dev package from
OSGeo4W.  Unfortunatly there currently doesn't seem to be a mrsid plugin for
GDAL 1.7 in OSGeo4W (which is what qgis-dev uses).

The qgis package (and therefore also the standalone installer) use GDAL 1.6 -
which has a MrSID plugin available.

You should probably file an enhancement ticket for GDAL 1.7 in the OSGeo4W
TRAC[1].
