[Qgis-user] dbf file

"General input/output error" ?
on ubuntu the default OOo doesn't handle correctly dbf file. You need
to install the latest release from the PPA :
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:openoffice-pkgs/ppa/
sudo apt-get install openoffice.org
