Hi, Percy. If your map unit is in meters (m) but want your scale bar to
display kilometers (km), one way to do this in Composer would be to set some
parameters in the "Scale bar" dialogue (under the "Item" tab when you have
the scale bar selected).
Assume that you want your scale bar to show one kilometer only. You can set
the "Segment size (map units)" to be 1000, and the "Map units per bar unit"
to be 1000 as well. Set "1 Right segments" and "0 Left segments." That
should give you a scale bar with one tick equivalent to 1 kilometer in
length.
Finally, set the "Unit label" to "Kilometer" or "km" or something like that.
