[Qgis-user] changing the default behavior for "coordinate reference system of new layers" in QGIS general options?

+1, though my own take is that the coordinate system should default to the
first loaded layer (ala ArcGIS), though an option somewhere to specify
default behaviour would be good, just so long as the current behaviour
changes.

Hi all,

I would like to know your opinion about the above question.

My point of view, after giving many training courses, is that the
default option should be changed to "prompt for CRS", eventually
adding a checkbox in the dialog windows that pops up, to avoid being
asked over and over for the reminder of the session.

+1 from me as well

It is usually the first setting that I change whenever I install QGIS
on a new machine.

I also think this is the right approach. I don't like programs hiding the
gritty details, rather, user's should be confronted with the question,
forcing them to understand a bit better...

+1 for me too.

As an engineer without particular GIS expertise but for whom QGIS provides
a very useful resource, being forced into correct procedures is definitely
a good idea. I have spent more than my share of time trying to figure
out, and correct, things like Ontario, Canada being displayed in two
places at once or all of the roads in Ontario being displayed encompassed
by Moira Lake.

+1 here too. Once I found this setting, it's something that gets changed
on every install that I do.
