[Qgis-user] Compressed Maps

Hi guys,

 
I just installed Quantum GIS and am really excited about the software. However, I have got one problem: maps appear somehow compresed.

 
Example: I downloaded German administrative borders from gadm.org. The map should look like attachment DEU_adm.png, but looks like qgis-output.jpg. So its too wide, the proportions do not match.  What do I do wrong?
