Hello Jurgen,
  Thanks for your reply. I have gone through all drives, removed all previous qgis, osg and related files, and then reloaded qgis 1.7.0 and it still gives the same error message. 
  I'm wondering if the QtCore4.dll  needs to be installed some where in win 7 before qgis is downloaded. Any ideas or suggestions would be of great help.
