[Qgis-user] QGIS 1.7.4 crashes on Mac when opened

I'm completely new to the QGIS world, and definitely not a programmer.  I
couldn't find an answer to this question, but I apologize if this question
has been asked and answered before. I have a Mac, running OS x 10.6.8.  I
downloaded QGIS 1.7.4 because I was having issues with the ECW plugin with
v. 1.7.  I can install 1.7.4 just fine, but when I try to open it, I get an
error saying that I need to make sure this version is compatible with my Mac
OS X and this:
