In addition to the SimpleSVG plugin (I assume thats the one you are
trying to use), you can save a pdf or svg from the map composer it just
tends to come out with some extra stuff.

Could you please post more about the error you get? Do you get a message
or the output just isn't what you expect? How many layers, what type?
Does it fail on even simple exports or just complex ones?
