this is GDAL 1.9.0-3.6 (OpenSUSE-repo)

I changed line 2103 of qgsogrprovider.cpp

Just to double check (I am not familiar with compiling software): I did 
a git pull in branch master and followed the build instructions given 
here: 
http://hub.qgis.org/wiki/quantum-gis/Building_QGIS_from_Source#Building-on-GNULinux
