"Never change a running system" would fit better here.

For that reason, I still use Qgis 1.8 standalone on C:\Programs (x86) 
for daily work, and still have 1.7.4 ready in parallel. The Osgeo4w with 
gdal 1.9.2 and Qgis master I only have for testing purposes.

Thats the difference between stable and nightly builds.
