[Qgis-user] All gdal reliant functionality stopped working

perhaps there is a problem with libgdal... from your message, gdal/ogr
binaries are built using 1.9, but libs are built using 1.8.
try
$ apt-cache policy gdal-bin libgdal1 qgis
