Subject: [Qgis-user] Merging files

Dear All,
I am new to this mailing list and to QGIS.
I am desperately trying to incorporate data from an excel spreadsheet into a shp file. Both databases have a common identifier variable that could allow the matching.
The problem is, I simply don't know how to do it!
Can somebody help?
