I’m trying to build decent Canadian topo maps.
The Toporama WMS Server http://wms.ess-ws.nrcan.gc.ca/wms/toporama_en? is quite nice, as long as you reorder the layers before importing, and remember to set the projection to something that you like. And the georeferenced scans of the paper topo maps are available (unfortunately most have their collars on still.)
However the vector maps are also available from Canvec, as shape files (here National Topographic Data Base (NTDB), Canada) and supposedly as GML (somewhere else). I’d really like to use this vector data.
The symbology they use in ArcMAP is documented http://ftp2.cits.nrcan.gc.ca/pub/geogratis/faq/Procedureaddsymbologycanvec.pdf
and this guy here http://glaikit.org/2010/05/23/untangling-canvec/ figures out the format layers a little better (his listing of features and their location is attached below.)
Just wondering if:
1) Anyone has a good QGIS symbology for these layers, and
2) Anyone know of any WFS server for this data, so I don’t have to download files?
(PS they
Thanks,
