I added Lars in Cc: so we can discuss, how to fix this. I hope he can help
us with this.

ok, I had a look at http://map.geo.gl.ch/
Are these changes available somewhere and would it be difficult to
integrate it in the qgis webclient as an option?
I mean, if I only want to show a limited number of layers with a
simple/short legend, it would be nice to have the possibility to use this
option together with an expanded layer tree. This way would make it very
easy for unexperienced users to oversee all features and informations.
