[Qgis-user] downloading map data

Dearest Zoltan - 

I am running QGIS 2.4 on a Mac OSX v. 10.9.4. I am able to load Vector layers into a project, but whenever I try to load a map - either OpenStreetMap, Google Physical, etc - it takes ages to finally load. Is there a way I can download specific maps to the program instead of having to load them from the internet each time?
