Make your CSV EPSG:4326 (wgs84) since you have Lat and Long Ranges. See if they line up with "Project on the fly" checked.

If so - right click the layer and Save as and reproject (selecting a defined CRS) to NAD_1983_StatePlane_New_York_Long_Island_FIPS_3104_Feet

Thank you, all!

Yes indeed, it does seem to be a projection issue. I selected the NAD_1983_StatePlane_New_York_Long_Island_FIPS_3104_Feet CRS since that is what is specified in the SHP file information, and assigned that to the .CSV file of geocoded addresses as well. I saved the SHP file in order to convert the coordinates to latitude and longitude, but now the SHP file winds up south and east of the address layer. The scales are different, as well.

It looks to me like they need a matching center point?

Mary

So the last couple of responses are good - those are things you need to check.

Try this - bottom right hand corner of QGIS there is a small icon that appears to be a circle with some shading. Just to the left of it you probably see EPSG:4326 (hopefully). Click on the icon - turn on "on the fly" CRS transformation and see if things line up.

Hello all:

I am a very new user of QGIS (v. 2.4) on a Windows installation. I have a SHP file and a CSV file with good geocoded addresses in the area delineated by the SHP file. However, I cannot get the layers to display together. I have turned off "Control rendering order," checked the transparency of the layers, and can't figure out what else is wrong. I searched the documentation and didn't find anything else.

Any suggestions are very much appreciated.

Thank you.
