[Qgis-user] layers have sometimes have to be turned on and, off and on again to show up

I had the same problem, but found out that there is a checkbox "Update
drawing order" at the bottom of the context menu which shows up by
right-clicking the layer in layers tab.

My problem was solved by checking this box. I wonder if I am
responding to your question...
