[Qgis-user] ECW file cannot open in QGIS 2.4

Well it's more of a 1/2 truth. You are correct that they are likely
distributable (I'm more familiar with MrSID issues). However, not in a
mainstream Debian or Ubuntu repository where it's license would prohibit
it from being uploaded. It may be a candidate for a non-free repo but
that would likely require the company behind ECW to put it there.

I suppose the qgis.org repo could potentially keep a copy but that would
require gdal to be built by the qgis team for this purpose.

Do you know if the instructions on how to build are still correct,
that's really the important part of this.
