[Qgis-user] QGIS Opening simple Ascii X,Y,Z terrain data

Hi Rudy,

Yes for opening as raster the file need a header like this - with number of cols and rows, x,y corner, and cellsize.

You could rename a csv to asc.

But if you "only" has a csv with 3 col x,y, and z - you can take Layer>Add delimited text layer

Then make an interpolation and get your rater.

But...

For some reason it does not want to open an ascii file with the extension ".csv" ??



Do I need to rename it ??



The file has only

X,Y,Z



No header etc....



Is that a problem??

Can some one please explain how to open a simple ASCII X,Y,Z (Elevation) terrain data set ???



Why is it not straight forward ??
