My wrong property were the angles (in german GUI: "Größter Winkel zwischen den Zeichen auf Kurven").

Hi Mike,

This is standard functionality - no plugin needed.

Have a look at the "Placement" tab of the label settings in the layer properties. You can choose between "parallel", "curved" and "horizontal".
