[Qgis-user] Saga is not working

What do you mean by "hang out"? Does it not do anything and not return control to you? Does it give you an error? Does it run but not give you results?
One known issue with SAGA is that GDAL format plugins (MrSID, ECW, GRASS, ...) break the expected GDAL format order, so SAGA runs for a while, then gives an error that there is no output.
There is nothing to configure in the Terminal. QGIS is a GUI app and has nothing to do with the Terminal. SAGA configuration is done from the QGIS Processing menu, but it should be automatic.
