Hi,
I have done this in the past using documents found here. Qgis uses proj.4 syntax.
http://ie.unc.edu/cempd/projects/mims/spatial_beta/external/PROJ4.html
You can create user defined projection in "Setting/custom CRS".
Good luck!

Dear Andre, Is it possible, because of the different WKT string specification, my shape files was misaligned for about 200 meters to 300 meters when I chose Kertau (RSO)/RSO Malaya (m) (EPSG:3168) as the projection (OTF)? In view of that issue, can you advise me if I 1) can I still use the Kertau (RSO)/RSO Malaya (m) (EPSG:3168) projection? Or 2) should I transform the projection to any other projection? Or 3) should I use the User-define CRS? If yes, how can I do that? I apologize for any trivial questions here. Your responses is very much appreciated. Hi,
I am assuming QGIS cannot read this projection?
You are right, the projection name is not known for QGIS.
The WKT string for Kertau RSO is:
PROJCS["Kertau (RSO) / RSO Malaya (m)",
GEOGCS["Kertau (RSO)",
DATUM["Kertau_RSO",
SPHEROID["Everest 1830 (RSO 1969)",6377295.664,300.8017,
AUTHORITY["EPSG","7056"]],
AUTHORITY["EPSG","6751"]],
PRIMEM["Greenwich",0,
AUTHORITY["EPSG","8901"]],
UNIT["degree",0.0174532925199433,
AUTHORITY["EPSG","9122"]],
AUTHORITY["EPSG","4751"]],
PROJECTION["Hotine_Oblique_Mercator"],
PARAMETER["latitude_of_center",4],
PARAMETER["longitude_of_center",102.25],
PARAMETER["azimuth",323.0257905],
PARAMETER["rectified_grid_angle",323.1301023611111],
PARAMETER["scale_factor",0.99984],
PARAMETER["false_easting",804670.24],
PARAMETER["false_northing",0],
UNIT["metre",1,
AUTHORITY["EPSG","9001"]],
AXIS["Easting",EAST],
AXIS["Northing",NORTH],
AUTHORITY["EPSG","3168"]]
which looks similar to the one given, but the ellipsoid major axis is different, and False Easting.
