[Qgis-user] problem calculating area

Ihallo
I use version 2.14.2  and also on another computer 2.18
I creates new shapefile and addes polygon on it. trying to calculate the
area of the polygon , it gives 0.
its happen randomally.
sometimes it works but rarely.
the error is that when doing $area it gives  0.
my operating system is win 10 but it happen also on win7
