[Qgis-user] best way to download Large datasets from OSM

There's a nice blog entry by Anita about this sort of thing. 
A guide to GoogleMaps-like maps with OSM in QGIS. 

OSM has some really large index numbers now which means you probably need to bump it into some sort of DB for it to be useful.
