[Qgis-user] How to create valid new shapefiles with qgis and a buffer around?

Hi,

I created new shapefile layers (point, line and polygon) with qgis and tried 
to create buffers around, but it does not work properly -> the buffer is 
much to large, I want to create a buffer with e.g. 40 m and then the buffer 
is much bigger.

Since buffering works fine with other shapefiles (that are not created by 
me with qgis), my created shapefiles must have mistakes.

Can anyone help?
