[Qgis-user] General question about best approach

Hello

i have a very general question:
I am becoming more and more familiar with QGIS and thinking about to run
some own analysis.
Now i am not sure how to go on the best.

The key issue is that i have data in two different layers (a link with an attribute)
and i want to compare them (if similar or not or any other mathematical calculation)
and show the result in a table or sth like that.

So how to start the best with so that i can improve my knowledge step by step
in this way.
