[Qgis-user] limiting contour lines to range of elevations

Hi Mike,

to start with, it'd be good to know what kind of data you are working
with. Is your "DSM" a raster file (i.e. pixels) or a vector file
containing the contours?

If it's a raster, you can create the contours by selecting "Raster" ->
"Extraction" -> "Contour" from the menu, then select your input (raster)
file and an appropriate interval, as well as an output file (your
contours will be saved here). Also, check the "Attribute name" box and
enter something ("ELEV" is a good idea) into the field next to it. This
will allow you to filter the contours later.

Load the contour file into QGIS, if not done automatically, and
right-click on it in the Layers Panel (like Matt suggested). If your
height attribute is called "ELEV" and you want to display the lines
between 0 and 10 (unit is the same that your raster file was in), you
can enter

"ELEV" > 0 AND "ELEV" < 10

in the "Provider specific filter expression" section. Press OK and you
should have what you want. This filter does not change the dataset, and
if you load the same file again, you will have the original lines again.

Cheers,
Lukas
