Hi Boaz

I just stumpled across some very nice PostGIS functions few days ago:

http://postgis.net/docs/manual-2.2/ST_ApproximateMedialAxis.html
http://postgis.net/docs/manual-2.2/ST_StraightSkeleton.html

For ST_ApproximateMedialAxis() you need SFCGAL extension installed.
