[Qgis-user] QGIS Basics: FIPS and Lat/Long conversion?

Hi all,

Apologies for a REALLY newbie question but is there a way in QGIS or other open source mapping software to convert addresses into both lat and long coordinates and FIPS codes? I know there's a lot of online resources for this, but due to privacy practices we are not supposed to upload member address data online.
