Hi Finbar,

As Paolo said the function is already in QGIS to read weather data:

And to see wind traces, we have not implemented it yet. There used to be
this functionality in QGIS 2 with Crayfish plugin. But now that we have
native support for mesh, it should be re-written:
https://issues.qgis.org/issues/21113
