After managing to get through some oddities thanks to local Python experts during Christmas holidays, a new one refers to a Java issue. When doing a meta search I get the error message below on clicking the search button.

I can't speak for others, but in my experience QGIS is quite suitable
on Mac as well as Windows/Linux.

The MetaSearch error you are seeing is actually coming from the CSW
service that is being queried. If you are able to provide the CSW
server
in question, this would help us investigate further.

Thanks

..Tom
