[Qgis-user] MapInfo export issue

Hi,

I checked my old files and looks like the Mapinfo never used the .prj extension for the projection info. I was confusing the old .qpj file format that was used for the shapefiles a while ago. That format was a temporary fix. Looks like Mapinfo store the info in the .map file. This can be seen more clearly if you export the file to the MID/MIF format as pointed out by others.

You say QGIS no longer exports the projection in the output when saving to Mapinfo format. Can’t you check the mid-mif export file or use OGRINFO to see if this is correct?

Another possibility is that you are using, in QGIS, a projection that is not recognized by Mapinfo. This could be the case if a files opens in the correct crs in QGIS but not in Mapinfo. You may need to update the Mapinfow.prj file with the unrecognized projections…. That file stores all the Mapinfo world projection and it can be manually edited with a simple text editor like notepad++
