[Qgis-user] Sample data not loading into QGIS

All - beginner user here following the QGIS instructions to load Alaska data set into QGIS.
Installed QGIS  3.20.2-Odense
Running MacOS 10.15.3
- downloaded the Alaska data set as linked in the instructions.
- opened QGIS and opened the Data Source Manager browser window.

There is no QGIS data folder shown and when I attempt to browse to the folder location (now on the desktop),
there is nothing shown - no files, no folders.  Desktop, Downloads, and Documents show no files or folders.
Dropbox does show files and folders.

Is there a specific location that the QGIS folder and files need to reside ?
