[Qgis-user] transferring data from ArcGis to QGIS

I was in a similar position but from MapInfo. You will find that most if not all of your individual data files will open fine in QGIS. Opening whole projects and layouts is a different matter of course. You will probably find it easier, once you have practised on some simple datasets and become familiar with basic QGIS terminology and processes, to reassemble the most-needed portions of your older work from your base material rather than seeking a magic-bullet translator for finished products. Start with the QGIS training manual  https://docs.qgis.org/2.14/en/docs/training_manual/and the https://www.qgistutorials.com/en/  (I’m sure there is other fine material out there too) and look for modules most relevant to the tasks and data you have.  You would need these skills anyway to debug whatever any such elusive beast might create. The basics of how QGIS treats data sources, coordinate reference systems, formatting, georeferencing and spatial queries is not so different as to be impenetrable. Good luck!

Subject: [Qgis-user] transferring data from ArcGis to QGIS

For a number of years, whilst a student and on the staff of University I have used ArcGis.  After this year I will be retiring from University and losing this access.  I would like to copy all my work over to QGIS, so that I can continue my research, could you let me know if this is possible and where I can locate directions to do it.  I have all my work on an external hard drive.
