Hi Matti,
in addition to the questions from Hannes:
How do you create the map inventory? With QGIS?
If so, I would definitely take a look at Lizmap, also as an alternative to the QGIS client. You save yourself the complete graphical preparation and simply share your QGIS project. With user administration, editing options and much more.
There are some videos about Lizmap in German from me at FOSSGIS conferences. I think the installation is easier than with the other comparable applications, but without any knowledge of the server area (including Apache) I find it only of limited use. It may still work on an intranet, but the security aspect comes into play on the Internet. But you can also acquire the knowledge.
Kind regards,
Günter

Moin Matti,
there are countless options and it really depends on your actual use cases. "share maps" could mean anything. ;)
Some questions that might help on this quest: What is a map to you (vector data on top of a background map I assume)? How is the data styled? How are others going to access the maps? What interactions do they need? How much data is it?
Cheers, Hannes

Hello one and all,
I want to set up a server to share maps with my colleagues, but I am completely new to the field of sharing geoservices. I know there are many providers like Felt or GIS Cloud for bigger companies, but we need a simple solution and would prefer a FOSS approach. I am using uMap now, but without proper user authentication, sharing sensitive data is not possible.
I have already found some blog entries on how to set up a geoportal (e.g., GIS Server with Mapbender), but they are missing a lot of details for me as a newbie. Because of this, I wanted to ask if there is some open-source cookbook or something similar for people like me without previous training in hosting a geodata server.
Kind regards,
Matti
