[Qgis-user] Display only selected vector line feature

I've georeferenced an old map, added a shapefile layer, and used vector
line features with styling to highlight the roads in yellow on the map. If
I select one of the features in the attribute table, it is rendered in a
bright, opaque yellow, as opposed to the semi-transparent styling I've
chosen for the layer:

I put all the roads - 18 - in one layer. I want to be able to selectively
render each road as a semi-transparent yellow line, rather than have all 18
simultaneously shown. Is that possible?
