Hello QGIS users,
I’m writing to introduce Qtiler, a new open-source tool from MundoGIS for
generating, inspecting, and publishing WMTS/XYZ tile caches from QGIS
projects.
Short summary
- Project: Qtiler (MundoGIS) — https://github.com/MundoGIS/Qtiler
- Purpose: convert QGIS projects into tile caches (WMTS/XYZ), create
Capabilities, and publish results so they can be added back into QGIS or
used in web mapping clients.

Why you might try it
- Speed up visualization by serving pre-generated tiles rather than
rendering on the fly.
- Share styled maps from QGIS as WMTS/XYZ across teams and web apps.
- Inspect caches and capabilities via the included web UI.
Basic workflow
1. Prepare a QGIS project (.qgs or .qgz) with the layers/styles you want.
2. Use Qtiler (see README) to generate the cache and Capabilities.
3. Add the created WMTS/XYZ endpoint in QGIS (Layer → Add Layer → Add
WMS/WMTS Layer or Add XYZ Tiles).
Repository:
- Main repo: https://github.com/MundoGIS/Qtiler
Request for feedback We would greatly appreciate:
- Testing with different CRSs, large vector datasets, and various
styling scenarios.
- Reports of any issues or missing documentation in the repo issues.
- Suggestions on whether a Processing script or full plugin would be
more useful for the community.
If there’s interest, we can submit a tutorial to the QGIS documentation or
prepare a Processing script / minimal plugin for easier installation. We’re
also available to demo the workflow on a short presentation or meeting.
Thanks for your time — looking forward to feedback.
