    I had this problem when updating to Ubuntu 12.04, I had to reinstall
    the libspatialindex. After that when running ccmake it will (should)
    find
    SPATIALINDEX_INCLUDE_DIR                                                    
     <br>
    and SPATIALINDEX_LIBRARY both automatically (i.e., it should not be
    necessary to point to these manually).<br>

I am building QGIS from GIT.

In my cmake file I cannot seem to find the following:

SPATIALINDEX_INCLUDE_DIR                                                      
SPATIALINDEX_LIBRARY

Can someone tell me where I need to point Cmake 
to find these two items?
