I have not used it yet so I'm not sure, but I think the only way is to use the open standard formate SLD http://underdark.wordpress.com/2012/06/03/sld-support-and-other-qgis1-8-style-features/

There are also possible to make this in ArcGIS http://gis.stackexchange.com/questions/3755/how-to-edit-or-convert-ar

And also MapInfo can read and create SDL-files.

How does it work to exange style defined layer files between MapInfo and ArcGIS? Even there may the use of SLD as layer style make it easier? If i'm not correct, pleas correct me.

Cheers
/Johan

2012/10/17 Ben Jones <bmjones@iprimus.com.au>

I am a new user to Qgis and this list. I have colleagues that work with MapInfo and ArcGIS and am using .tab and .shp files in Qgis. Two questions:

1) Is possible to import styles that were assigned to shape files and tab files in MapInfo and ArcGIS (respectively) into Qgis (ie styles saved in an ArcGIS layer .lyr file)?

2) Alternatively is there a repository of additional polygon fill styles that can be loaded in Qgis (the existing fill styles appear to be very limited)?

Help will be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
