IIRC, that particular gotcha related particularly to the windows world.<br>
It had to do with changing a file that another application (ie, QGIS) had<br>
open. Most windows people seem pretty good at keeping up with the QGIS<br>
updates, which means they're running fairly new GDALs.<br>

What's got my attention is that Brett just said it worked on a TAB file,<br>
which is not something I was expecting.<br>

I was wondering if anyone had successfully deployed QGIS via a Citrix (Thin Client) environment and could answer the following questions:<br>

1) Is it possible to compile an installer package that not only installs qgis, but installs the required plugins too?<br>

2) Can you get QGIS to install so it doesn't look for updates to either software or plugins?<br>
<br>
3) Is there a minimum spec/requirement for an install on a Citrix environment for QGIS to function correctly?<br>

We've just installed QGIS in Citrix and had to complete the base install and then configure QGIS with connections to databases and web services. Then install any additional plugins that users might need (gazetteer search). Then the Citrix server is set to read-only to save the base image. I guess you could build a package for QGIS with everything configured and then install that in the Citrix environment but you only need to do one install so probably not worth the effort of building a bespoke package.<br>

The system is set up to allow individual users their own .qgis2 folder which they have read/write access to. This mean that technically they are able to install plugins as they are saved in the .qgis2\python\plugins folder. Not sure about restricting access to updates as our install needs internet access for web services and the plugin manager must look for updates automatically.<br>
<br>
Our server spec is pretty beefy with heaps of RAM and fast processors. As it is single threaded (for now) the fastest processor will help and probably a minimum of 2GB RAM. We installed the 64bit version to get around limitations when printing.<br>
<br>
The Citrix bit we needed the most work on was allowing access to the .qgis2 folder to save configurations per user and sorting internet access. Compared to configuring ArcGIS, QGIS was a breeze as it just worked for the most part.<br>

I am a new user of qgis 2.0.1 Dufour.<br>

I have a shapefile of contours sourced from the British Ordnance Survey via<br>
Stanfords in vector format. I need the contours to be in Raster form, so<br>
that I can map the altitudes coloured in as usual, say green for low<br>
levels to brown for higher altitudes. Also I want to plot the slopes, which<br>
can only be calculated in Raster format.<br>

I don't think using the rasterising facility will work, since the shapefile<br>
only recognises the polylines in two dimensions and has no knowledge of<br>
the altitudes.<br>

I am wondering if I can digitize into a raster shapefile from the vector<br>
map on the computer screen. But I cannot see how I can do this exactly.<br>
