Thanks - I have QGIS on a different W7 machine, no other Linux
ones. I

I packaged it with QConsolidate & it worked OK on the W7
machine, with much panning and rapid mousewheel zooming

I'm trying rebuilding the project from the start & so far
it seems OK,
as do other earlier projects created on 2.16 but now opened n
2.18 I've
tried lots of panning & rapid mouse-wheel zooming &
they seem stable.
Maybe this project has got corrupted somehow? I know this
used to
happen in ArcGIS occasionally.

Update - the clean project build worked fine, right up till I
was pretty much finished & it started crashing out again.

So, it seems OK on Windows but not on Linux

I uninstalled all my plugins (some were marked but not available
for uninstall, so I unmarked them).
On trying to restart the project that was giving me trouble, it
wouldn't even start - the page flashed up momentarily then was
gone.

On another project with the same data, it opened then froze.

I'll try & file a bug then.
