Do you have a symbology on the table that assigns colours to polygons based on an attribute value with no default setting? </div>

If the new polygons have such values which do not exist in the symbology setup, that could be why they don't render in that layer. </div>

I'd look at the resources QGIS is using and see if it is just working very hard doing something, or is frozen & doing nothing. </div>

When copying selected polygons into another polygon layer I am not getting the new polygons rendering in the view. The Feature Total of the layer goes up, and the nodes appear as red crosses, but there is no rendering of the polygons. The layer is at top of
the layer bar and opacity bar is 100% so is not that</div>
