thanks for your suggestion Tyler but unfortunately no. I also guess I need the
pw for the MySQL root:

[odassau at xblade14-2 ~]$ sudo mysqladmin -u root create joomla_qgisweb
Password:
mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)'
