Markus pointed out the www.osgeo.org was down a few minutes ago. I haven't changed anything for a long time, so not sure what precipitated the trouble. The error log pointed to a drupal module complaining about running out of memory. I checked php.ini and changed memory limit from 16MB to 32MB, restarted apache and all seems to run okay.
